This is one of my favourite website projects so far. Using the popular Invictus theme, however adding a lot of customisation to make sure the client, Monolith Magazine, got a unique site which was to their specification. The key features of this site are shown below in the gallery, please have a look through.

A key part of the site was the client’s ability to edit everything and she was extremely pleased with how the system was set up…

I had a play with getting to grips with the publishing stuff today, it works amazingly well. So pleased!

As Told By is a theatre production company founded by two Bristol University students, supported by the Greenwich Theatre’s Artist Development programme.

Their brief was pretty simple: A good looking site to display their upcoming and past shows, which is easy to manage and links in well to Facebook and Twitter. They built all the content themselves to save on cost, a testimony to the easy to use content management system.

I have also photographed their excellent Macbeth production and the photos are shown off well with the fullscreen backgrounds and a gallery page that’s sortable by each production.

On the 4th of September 2012, two fellow Bristol University students will be making an attempt on the English Channel in an effort to raise funds for the Bristol based breast cancer support group, Bosom Buddies. They have approached this fundraising event in a unique way with events leading up to the big swim throughout 2011 and 2012. For their marketing strategy to work they needed a website that integrated well with Facebook, Twitter and JustGiving.

Crucially the site must be easily managed by the 21miles team, which has been achieved using my regular content management system.

I am also the teams photographer and will be testing out a new underwater housing at a number of their events…look out for the results on my facebook page.

Orbital is the largest student society in Bristol with 1000s of new members every year. Last year I built them a website which was extremely successful, attracting 1000s of hits per month and selling £1000s in the online shop. This summer (2011) the new committee commissioned me to build a new site, based on my original designs and artwork by Fiona McCurdie, but using a content management system to allow easy editing and updating for their large committee.

The main goals were:

1) Easy content management for a large number of users, easy with varying levels of access.

- This was obtained by building the site on WordPress which allows unlimited users with 5 levels of access and a very client-friendly control panel to add/edit content on the site.

2) The site had to continue to look great and have a very clear layout.

- Thanks to artwork by Fiona McCurdie for the 2010 site I had a lot to work with. The designs still use the colourful hot air balloon theme, but with very clear, bold black and white text.
Lots of big pictures and sidebars which contain key information help users work their way around the site as well.

3) Annual updates of committee info and sport captains would be straightforward.

- I have built the site so that each user can update their own profile including their bio, picture, contact details and facebook profile link. When they do so every aspect of the site that references this information is updated automatically. This means that now only one page needs to be updated rather than all 6 pages that include committee or captain data.

4) Facebook had to be even more important.

- A new facebook page and group were added to Orbital’s facebook portfolio. The page is fed into the sidebar on every page of the website and the links to the main group and all the sport team groups are found on a facebook page on the site. All these pages and groups are already coming up on the first page of Google.

5) The site must continue to be top of Google search results.

- It is, easily. Type in Bristol Orbital and the majority of the first page is this site or the facebook links. The only non-official Orbital page on the first page of Google is this page you are reading now and the one I made for the 2010 Orbital site!

The package I got UBNC is only £25/year to host with the web address, so a very affordable option for other societies out there!

1) This is the home page for bristoluninetball.com. The custom header image and colour scheme makes the site feel tailored to Bristol Netball and the navigation is very clear and easy to use.

2) The News page is a the facebook page’s feed. This means that only one page has to be updated and using facebook means it is a lot quicker and simpler for the whole committee to post news items.

3) The facebook page is crucial to the publicity of Bristol Uni Netball. It also has the most recent photos on there from games and socials. Events can be created through the page to look more official than if committee members created them.

4) The custom google map shows all the locations the club use for trainings and games in Bristol in one map. Directions from any address can be generated by clicking on a location. This was important for UBNC as they have many locations for all their teams, spread around Bristol.

5) The committee profiles page looks good and is very easy to update after AGMs. The email addresses, profile pictures and facebook profiles are all linked in to this page to give visitors the best link to the committee.

6) The clubs youtube page, www.youtube.com/bristoluninetball is a great way to gain more publicity in google and also the easiest way to manage their videos. These can be added to their site with one click and look great to potential members!
